I don't think a clown that is just funny and cute is going to be very marketable. If people just want a clown to stand there and be cute then they will have more luck and it will be cheaper just to buy the make-up and do it themselves. Clowning is not a seperate skill from juggling, balloons or magic; clowning is a part of those skills. Whether you put on a clown face or not if you are entertaining with balloons for children you are using the same skills that a clown would use.

It is also worth noting that a clown can use all of his entertaining skills out of clown making it possible for him to be a more marketable force in this current economy whereas someone who just juggles will have to turn down calls when the person is looking specifically for a clown.

If you got paid what you are asking, then you should send the owner of the company who subcontracted you a thank you card for using you and ask he considers using you in the future. If it is a large event company who subs their jobs believe me they have a lot of overhead in advertisement alone. You should be happy you got what you wanted and be happier the company who subcontracted got what they wanted. Now if they lied to you and they talked you down money and made a bunch of money I would pissed. In the future if you don't like it, don't do business with them, just know there are people out there who would be willing to replace you. Good luck with all you do and be safe out there.

I have to disagree with this. Clowns should be funny and cute. The goal of a clown is to make people laugh. Spend more time on learning the craft of making people laugh. Then you won't have to spend all that time learning how to make balloons, magic and juggling.

That is show business for you.

You got your rate.

Now you know how much you are worth, in that arena, you wont charge so little I hope.

If you are undercutting other professionals it is important to riase your rate. Especially now, in this economy. There will be plenty of
newbies with low rates. We have to stand together.

I am assuming you saw the corporate rate.
750$ to $1200.

That is a broad but standard rate.

I hope you find yourself getting that rate from now on.

Hi there,
I loved reading your info. I have been clowning for years as a volunteer, a few parties here & there. In this failing economy, I have found myself in need of a second job, and wah lah CLOWNING is a skill I already have. I am looking to start marketing myself as a professional entertainer and you really gave me much food for thought. Thanks again.

Thank you so very much. I had some loud music on my site and I thought of what you said and stopped it.
I would like some info on clown workshops and clown alleys. I have noticed that in the North Georgia area there is not alot to offer as far as continued training.
I appreciate you very much
